Bird is gone

I gave back the cockatiel that my friend had given me in Oct. The bird was untrainable and it screeched all the time. It was driving my husband zany. He has to protect his ears as he is a piano tuner by trade. It sure is peaceful around here again. It is too bad that the bird has had so many owners that it may never be a good bird.

I joined another knit-along today....Thing-along. It is from Jackie Fee's Sweater Workshop book.

It is foggy and freeezing rain here. YUCK. Good night to stay in a knit.

Christmas Gifts

I hope you all had a blessed and merry Christmas!

I got some wonderful gifts. My daughter and son-in-law got me a Shiatsu massage pad. Dear hubby got a new leather computer desk chair and a headset phone! And a big indoor grill(George Forman type). My dear son gave me a gift certificate to my LYS!!! woo hoo. A couple of my son's friends even gave me gifts. His best friend got me a set of snowman candles that sit on a plate with tree candles and pinecones. It is so cute. His ex-grilfriend got me a beautiful cross candle sconce and candle.

Dear grandbaby got tons of toys and clothes. Her favorite things to play with???? The boxes of course! She got this wonderful little walker from my son and she used the box to walk around house with. It was so funny.

My husband sure loved his wool socks!

It will be hard to get back in a routine after having family around for so many days after being an empty nester for a while. Lots of cleanup to do....

Day before Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas from

Feeling better today. I went to Dr. and found out it was not strep but I have a rhinovirus on my uvula and larynix. I have to take an anti-inflammatory and gargle with some numbing stuff. I am taking it easy to get all better for Christmas.

I finished lt.gray wool socks for hubby and started a pair of mittens for him to match the hat I knit him earlier. I am still knitting my socks. I bought yarn to knit socks for my son but I don't think I will get them done by Christmas. Maybe if I knit all the time and stay off the computer I could do it.

I made some new buttons for you to steal for your website to link to me. Please save them to your own computer. See on right under Take These

Wonderful Signatures from my talented friend Inez!

Sore Throat

Owie,,, I woke up this morning with a swollen throat that is killing me. I got up at 6, ate some yogurt and fell asleep in recliner until 10:30. That's when I know I am sick. I can get into a doctor this afternoon. It probably is strep throat. Have to get better before Christmas!

I worked on a sock last night and got the heel turned and working on gussett. I have one of them done already so almost done. Sure am glad I can still knit while sick.

If I don't post before Christmas......

Merry Christmas to all and remember....

Jesus is the reason for the season!

All Ready for Christmas!

I didn't think I would get it all done but I did! All the presents are under the "tree". The 2 foot artificial is on top of coffee table and presents are under the table. MY hubby never finished a much needed job for me so I stood my ground on no finishing, no tree. LOL
It actually looks festive and sure will be a lot easier to take down after holidays.

I am working on 2 pairs of socks right now. Another pair of woolies for dear hubby and a wool pair for me. His are on circulars one at a time cuff down. Mine are on 2 circulars toe up. The pair that hubby is getting were supposed to be for my son but they are too big so he won't get a pair for Christmas....but soon after.

It has snowed all day and it looks great. The roads are very slippery though. I guess we will have a white Christmas. :-)

New Furnace

We got a new furnace today. Of course it was a very cold day, only 20 degrees. So furnace was off all day. I kept the house above freezing by using the self-cleaning oven. Got the oven cleaned and kept the bird and me from freezing. I wore my hand spun, hand knit sweater and wool socks and still needed a sweater over that and a lap blanket. BRRRRR. But now the new efficient furnace is running so nice and quiet and warming the house back up. It should be normal by the time hubby gets home from work.

I knitted on socks today but at times it was too cold to knit.

I also knit some adorable Baby Ugg Booties for my darling Ella. She is coming today for Thanksgiving and will take pictures with her wearing them and post later.

Turkey is thawed, celery is cut, bread crumbs bought..... now to spend the day cooking tomorrow for about 20 minutes of fine eating.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! May the Lord bless you and yours.

Ran out of yarn!!!!!

Arrgghhh. I have 1 & 1/4 socks knit and ran out of yarn and my LYS where I got it is also out. Now I have to drive an hour to see if another yarn shop has it.

I got the most beautiful yarn last night to knit my Irish Hiking scarf. It is Cascade Pastaza, color 67. A beautiful green/blue. Llama & wool... I am knitting with size 15 needles to get a light airy scarf. It will be beautiful. I am in need of a new winter coat so will have to take yarn scrap with me to match coat to scarf!

I've been RAOK'd

Look at the very cool NeedleWerks button with the cockatiel on it to your right. It was a RAOK gift from Lynn at Mindful Moderation. Isn't it adorable?
(RAOK = Random Act of Kindness)

I had my Irish Walking scarf halfway done and ran out of yarn. I started knitting with the next skein and it was not the same lot. I had to "frog" the whole scarf.
:-(
Now to find a different yarn that is suitable.

I started a scarf witht the Irish Hiking Scarf Knitalong. It has 3 cables and will be a very beautiful scarf.

Not much else new. Wish I knew how to make cool buttons like everyone has on their blogs. I would like to start my own webring for Christian Knitters.

2 socks on 2 circulars

I started my first attempt at 2 socks on 2 circulars. It is easier than I thought!

I have to have a pair of camoflouge socks for my son in laws birthday in a couple of weeks so thought this would go faster.

Dear Grandbaby and her mommy were here for 3 days!!! I had so much fun with her. She will be 8 months in a few days and has learned so much. Of course I think she is the smartest baby around!

New look

I changed the template of my blog as the other one was just too hard to adjust things in the sidebar. Hope you like the new look.

I finished knitting one sock for my husband, made a pair for my grandbaby, and bought some yarn for my cascading leaves pattern socks.

I had fun at Herrschner's Warehouse Sale yesterday!

Yarn for $.49 and up. Most of the luxury wools I bought were only $1.99 a ball. Gotta love that!

Baby Poncho

I was up to visit my daughter and granddaughter for a few days. I taught my daughter recently how to knit. She knit up this poncho and headband for my little g-baby.

I had such a fun visit.
I taught my little punkin how to wave Hi and clap her hands.

Quaker Ribbed Bottom Hat

I finished my Quaker Ribbed Bottom hat this morning and I love it.
It fits perfectly.
I used Noro Kureyon color 102.

It's great to have a mannequin head to model hats!

I also got a picture of my dear hubby's hat taken.
I used "Naturally" Tussock Aran 10 ply from NZ.

He told me he feels special when he wears it.

I guess we are set for a cold WI winter now.

Blah day

I am in a Blah mood today.

I worked all day on the blog rearranging buttons, etc.
I was trying out a new background and it didn't work.
Good thing I pasted a copy into notepad before changing!

My mood will pick up soon as it is almost time to go to my knitting group, the "Yarn Yakkers". We meet every Thursday night at LYS, The Troll's Cove.

I am knitting a hat for myself out of Noro using a Shaker pattern. I want something that won't give me a totally bad hat hair day this winter.

I am working on getting my updated.

My husband finished his big Remote Control Airplane and I watched him fly it yesterday afternoon. It was awesome. He built it all from his own plan.

My Spinning Wheel

My dear hubby built me this spinning wheel back in 1981. It is mahoghany with brass fittings.
He recently refurbished the bearings to teflon and it spins like a dream. I was going to sell it as I needed money to help buy my car but decided to hang onto it and spin again.

Happy Day

I got a new car! Well, not new but new to me. I was in an accident in May and smashed my reliable old 1987 Buick. She was drivable but only during daylight hours as headlights were smashed.
So now I got a 1996 Chevy Corsica. Nice clean car and low miles. Now I can go to my knitting night and to yarn stores!!!!!

I finished my HalloWig. It looked goofy on me so I put it on my friends store mannequin for Halloween. I will try and take a picture on Sat.

I finished one sock for dear grandbaby. I have to try it on her before starting second one. Now that I have a car again, I can go see her more often. :-)

I started on a sock for me today using Lion Brand Magic Color yarn.

I really need a good pattern for a hat for my round pumpkin head. I have this skein of Noro that I am dieing to make something with.

I got my first RAOK yesterday! A gift certificate at an online Tea shop. How fun! I love tea.

Please come back another day to see if they show up.

Tuesday afternoon

I found this toy plastic knitting machine in my mom's stuff and brought it home with me. No instructions with it. I happened to be looking at other knitting blogs and some how stumbled across a website with instructions for the "Barbie Knitting Machine". Patterns to make things too. Oh I am like a child at Christmas!
knitting-and.com barbie-knitter

I finished the Hallowig, took some pics...now I just have to download them.

Gift for you

I created a sticker for you to take and put on your website or blog.

I am always smiling and it is done in Green Bay Packers colors...

I started knitting a wool hat for my dear hubby, Larry, using Naturally Tussock Aran yarn from NZ. It works up beautifully. I will post a picture when I get farther or done.

Hallowig is almost done. Just have to weave top together.

Wonderful Wins and Finds

Oh Boy look what the mailperson brought today!

13 pairs of circular needles!!!! Cost = about 80 cents each!

Yesterday while at my Dad's house, I did a little digging thru an area he hasn't gotten to yet. (My Mom passed away in '99). I found this little Avon suitcase that was mine from my first try of selling Avon in the early 70's. Inside it was jammed packed full of vintage Workbaskets and other booklets! There are issues dating back to 1954. Oh what fun it will be to look thru these.
There are a half years worth of issues from the year I was born. It will be fun to see what was in style and the prices of things in the ads.
I also found some other booklets and guess what they featured? Ponchos!!!

First Knit-Along

I joined my first KNit-Along last night!
I started knitting the HalloWig from Knitty.com.
HalloWig is a knit wig to wear for fun or Halloween.

I first saw this pattern earlier in the month and thought it would be fun to make and kept it in the back of my head. Then I saw someone was sponsoring a knit-along. Now was my chance to follow thru on my original thought to knit it.
I got pretty far last night while watching a movie with dear hubby.
The color is actually Tangerine ... Red Heart acrylic.

Socks are done

Wow, I finished my socks! It only took me 2 weeks...but it's been a few years since I knit socks and I was learning the new faster way on 2 circular needles. I also finished the toe in Kitchener stitch (a.k.a. grafting). First time for everything.

The Fixation variegated makes for unmatched patterns...

I will be starting some socks for my almost 7 month old grand-daughter,with the leftover of the Fixation yarn.

Knitting Socks

I just learned to knit socks on 2 circular needles! I am hooked as it is so much easier than 4 or 5 double pointed needles. Heel Turning and Gussets are so much quicker. I can see knitting many mittens in my future using 2 circulars. I am using Cascade's Fixation elastic yarn and it gives an awesome comfort and fit.

I find it amusing that I always buy the cheapest socks on sale and here I am paying money for yarn and taking the time to knit socks! But we don't knit to save money, do we? It is totally cheaper than a shrink!

Me? Blogging?

I can't believe I am going to try this "blogging"!!!!
I am not much of a writer but I will try.

I will share my knitting and everyday life here.

I started knitting when I was 10 at the knee of my Gramma. She was always busy with her hands. "Idle hands are the devil's playground", she would say!
Fall is the best time to knit as we are in the house and the yarn gives a warm feeling.
