Extended "Grand" visit

I am up north at my daughters house for a few weeks, possibly a month, maybe more. I am going to try and spend some quality time with my daughter and 2 grand daughters. I was here before Christmas while my daughter and son-in-law went to Cancun but didn't get to spend time with her.

Me and Ella walked to the Dollar store after lunch and it started snowing. Ella will be 4 and was having fun catching snowflakes with her tongue. She noticed everything along the way. She carries on the cutest conversations. The yarn store was closed so we will have to tyr and go another day. She wants me to knit her a baby blanket for her dolls. Too cute.

My husband will be "batching it" while I am here. It is a little over 3 hours away but in the winter that could turn into 5 or more. Maybe he will come up for my birthday. :-)

I have my own room here with a computer and internet, tv and swivel rocker. It is very comfortable. My son-in-law loves to cook. I get to play with the girls while he cooks and does dishes. A Grandma could get used to this!

Test Socks finished

This is the side view and I should have taken a front view as it shows the pattern better. Knit with Lorna's Laces. The pattern will be available where those patterns are sold. The Lobed Leaves are very pretty. My picture just not do it justice.
They were knit toe-up, 2 at a time on 2 circulars. Very nice short row heel.

Frantic knitting

I still have a long ways to go on my son' sweater for Christmas. I was busy knitting a test pattern and finally got them done. It was my first test knitting job. I was challenged with some new techniques and accomplished them. I am a better sock knitter for doing this! :-) I will post a picture once the pattern writer has them and gives me the ok.

I pulled a muscle in my back somehow and can't bend down much. I have much Christmas cleaning to do as I am having a house full on Christmas day. My hubby has promised to sweep and mop the floors.... oh dear...

Babysitting

For the past week I have been up at my daughter's house watching my beloved grandaughters. My daughter and her husband took a long awaited honeymoon after being married 4 1/2 years. They are in flight from Cancun home. I am tirrrrreeeedddd! Izzy is 18 months and can escape anything which keeps me running. Ella (4) is a good hlp but she has her moments of jeolousy and things get mighty noisy. Overall, it's been a wonderful week.

I do knit after they go to bed but I realized I made one sleeve a whole 2 inches shorter than the other on my son's Christmas sweater. I guess I am more tired than I thought! I will repair once I am back home in a safe un-knitting environment.

I will post pictures once I am home and recouped.

I am looking for a copy of Knitting Marvelous Mittens by Charlene Schurch if anyone has one they don't love anymore or if your local bookstaore has acopy...drop me a comment. ;-)

Put on some Glam.

I found this really cool site. Sparkle Plenty .They have custom logo t-shirts with crystal, rhinestone, promotional & logo apparel for special events, promotions, parties, tradeshows, bat mitzvahs, etc. - any special event which needs an upscale crystal tee or stunning rhinestone tee.
Their tees are very high-quality (sweatshop free) fitted and flattering (not the kind you sleep in or use to wash your car)

Can you imagine your whole wedding party in matching tee shirts with sparkles? I think that would be very original. Or at a baby shower with the due date? Or a great gift for the "tween" that you don't know what to buy for, her name in crystals!
Do you have a spa or salon? All your employees could have the salon name and theirs on a tee or name pin. They also have earrings and other jewelry. make your employee of the month feel special.

How about a custom logo for your home based business team? You could have them as rewards for top sales, etc.
Check them out.

I know this has nothing to do with knitting but I do know many work from home moms with a home based business. Sometimes I just like to spread some information as I love networking. :-)

Isabelle's sweater & Handspun

My grand-daughter, Isabelle, loved her new sweater. She didn't want me to take it off of her when we had spaghetti for supper but I didn't want her making a big mess on it. It has a crew neck, knit top down, no seams. Sweaters For Everyone Kids to Adults by Mary Rich Goodwin from One-Piece Knitting is the author of the book

Ella's sweater fit her but she would not model it.
She said she wasn't cold. :-) Ella's has a v-neck. Mommy sure loves that they now have matching sweaters and that they have warm sweaters for winter. They knit up so quickly and I love that there is no seaming.

I have also been spinning and plying. "Louise" Louet spins like a dream. I am producing so much yarn now. I am so happy that I purchased the new wheel. The double treadles make it easy on my back and knees. I actually have a small blister on my finger from spinning so much!

The seafoam green is a very nice soft yarn made of mohair, wool and silk. I wish I had gotten more of the roving. I bouhgt it in Door County in the Spring and the vendor did not have any information on her sales slip so I don't know where to get more. That is a very poor business practice.

The brown is coopworth and very easy to spin. I got that roving with the purchase of my Louet. There was only 1/2 pound but Yarns BY Design sells more. My husband would love something knit for him with it.

Swedish Squirrel Mitten

I finished 1 of my mittens today! This is my first 2-color mitten. It is so nice and warm and fits my hand perfectly. The pattern is free online here. I used sport weight Brown Sheep Nature Spun .
I have cast on for the second one but got sidetracked with my spinning wheel. :-D
I am spinning some nice cotswold natural brown. I have one bobbin full. I will be spinning another bobbin and plying. Plyed it will be sport weight. I will knit dear hubby some socks.

Meet Louise

My new spinning wheel!!!! I bought her today at Yarns By Design. Louise is a Louet S51 DT. She has double treadles for slow or fast spinning. She has a total of 3 bobbins included. She spins like a dream and so smoothly. I was spinning lace weight in no time. I am so excited to get some more spinning done, but I had to blog about her first!.

new spinning wheel in my future?

I am thinking of buying a new spinning wheel. I tried out some Louet's today and fell in love with the S51 DT. It is a double treadle and spins so smoothly at a slow pace for fine yarn.

I have a very nice spinning wheel that my wonderful hubby made me 28 years ago and have struggled with over spinning all these years. It is a beautiful piece of furniture.

Ella's V-Neck Cabled Sweater

I finished Ella's v-neck top down cable sweater this week. It was very easy with no seams. I used the pattern in the Sweaters For Everyone Kids to Adults book found at One Piece Knitting

I started on Isabelle's sweater and have the yoke and 1 sleeve done. I am doing just a crew neck top down plain sweater. I used Encore worsted for both sweaters.

King of the Harvest

Have you ever heard of Robert Bartow, the artist? He has a booth at our church this week and I bought this print from him. You can see it in color at his website.
I had this same image in a vision about 2 1/2 years ago and here he has created this picture! How awesome is God!!!!
Robert has beautiful work.

Oh and I did get him to autograph the back!

New Pathways for Sock Knitters

I love this book!!!! I did the first pair of "sample" socks in a couple of hours.
Cuff is unrolled to show color way. I used Encore worsted weight and size 6 circulars.
Too cute! Cat Bordhi is a genius!!!!

Of course, I am in her fan club group and the New Pathways group on Ravelry!
I am KnittinDeb over there so add me as your friend!

No new pictures

I guess I better get busy and finish some UFO's and get pictures posted. I haven't been very good about posting lately.

My mother-in-law may be passing into glory soon so it's been a little stressful. My husband and his sisters all went down to see them (deep south TX)so he just got back. I love my mother in law and it will be hard but she is 88 and ready to go home and be with her Lord and Savior.

I have 2 sets of socks on needles, 1 shrug, 1 purse and yet I am itching to start something new. I am waiting for Amazon to ship the new Cat Bordhi sock book. I guess the first printing is out of print already!!!

I got new cable needles from Knit Picks!. They are beautiful!!!!

I also got a #9 fixed circular Harmony needle. Ohhhhh how smooth and pretty.

Can you be in love with knitting needles???

I declined the new job

Well, I went with my gut feeling and declined the Kidz Kab job. The pay was so low for such responsibility. I almost get that delivering flowers.... can you believe it????
The place was in a run-down office space and office. It took them 3 hours to call me back when I had a question. Give me a break. I know I would have been a good driver and a safe person for the children to be with, but everybody suing for stupid stuff, it's not worth it. So I will wait... and continue delivering flowers.

I started knitting a Lucy bag. I have admired that pattern for a couple of years and finally made the little plunge.

I got another job!

I start Monday for a company called Kidz Kab. I will be driving children from school to day care or daycare home, etc. It will be perfect. It is Mon-Fri only with Holidays off. I will also continue driving for Flowerama in the mornings when they need me.

My husband also got hired as a permanent employee! He was working through a temp. agency. now maybe we will get some benefits. :-)

I am down 24# now and have lost over 18 inches overall! Cinch is really working well for me. And I am noticing a big difference in my skin since starting to use the Enfuselle Skin Care! Younger and lighter! woohoo

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

my girls and facials

My daughter, grand-daughter and I did a Shaklee facial on Saturday. Ella is 3 1/2 and loved the attention and having her own mirror and cotton balls. The Enfuselle Skin care is so fantastic. I do believe I am getting younger. :)

Ravelry! I'm in!!!

I'm in!!!!! After 2 long months. Well, I spent most of my day looking around and adding my stuff. It is such a cool site. oh yeah...I am KnittinDeb there.

I just joined the Six-Sock Knit-along I have my stitches cast on... I am going to knit both at the same time as the pattern is involved. Of course, I am using 2 circulars. :-)

I am down 21# now... seems to be slower but it is still going down. I got fitted for a correct size b-r-a. What a difference it makes. Lane Bryant is very helpful. Pants are getting so baggy but I don't want to buy new until I am down some more.

Scored some Rowan!

My LYS, Iris Fine Yarns, has a great sale going...until this Sat., I believe. I made a nice purchase of the last of her Rowan Dk new wool, burnt orange, and got an additional savings!

This special yarn will be just for me knitting... it is my favorite color to wear, matches my freckles!

I am getting closer to being added to Ravelry! Only 412 ahead of me, but 17,439 behind me. I have been uploading pictures to flickr to be ready.

Make your own movie

"Life as it should be" is a Coke zeros campaign. I tried it and it is fun. You can direct your own small movie and afterwards send it to all your friends. Coke has found some old black and white film clips that you, the director, can manipulate by using an easy voice recorder. Play with the speed to get it to sound different. You can even write "the conversation" to your own clip and say what ever you want. Be silly or serious. Afterwards your movie competes with other movies to be the highest rated. This is living "life as it should be".

Coke Zero...Real taste, zero sugar.
Get there before your friends : Coke zero

Zero is more.

Ring Bound book

I went to my local Kinkos and had them ring bind my Sensational Knit Socks book. It is great as it lays completely flat now for ease in following patterns! It cost $5.74 total, well worth it, and besides I bought the book on sale. I am hoping to get into the SKS-Kal .

Nice and flat

Down 19# and exercising!

Wow! I could hardly believe the scale. I am down 19# now and it is becoming easier! I am even exercising!!! This is a biggie for me. Tonight hubby and I went for a bike ride. It was a beautiful evening.

I did score some fantastic yarn yesterday! My LYS is having a clearance sale to make room for new yarns. I got some beautiful pumpkin orange Rowan DK for about 70% off! The reason I got such a good price was I bought all of the rest of the one color. I have enough to make myself a very nice sweater! I may have to hold off on that as I continue to lose weight. :-)

You can lose weight easy too... Cinch

Lost 16# now!

Wow! I am down 16# in just 2 months! during I am not hungry and do not have cravings. For the first time in my overweight life, the weight loss is easy. The beauty is that I am not losing muscle, but fat. before I have taken my measurements and have lost 3.5" off my waist, 4" off my hips, 3" off my bust, and 1.25" off my upper arm. My thighs have stayed the same as I never had a problem there. My dimples in my cheeks are showing as I lose weight in my face also!

Notice the roll showing in the before shot! The green top is the before... the orange shirt was taken today. I am confident enough to wear orange!!!

Click on the banner for more information on my weight loss program.

I got Cinched!!!!

I started on the Cinch Inch Loss plan 6 weeks ago and I have lost 14# and several inches! I have no cravings and my blood sugars stay level. I can't believe how easy it is for me to finally lost weight, without losing muscle mass. I love the taste and the easyness of the plan. I found that no only the wight loss is great but the cleaning supplies are superior to any I hav ever used. And they are "green". Even Ophra loves them! Check out a clip from her show...

I started knitting a felted purse and I am loving it.... I am using a rust colored cascade 220 as it looks like brown leather color. I am using a 2 old bags pattern.

Let me know if you have any questions about Cinch Inch Loss Plan...or Shaklee.

More socks

I finished another pair of socks using KnitPicks Simply stripes. They turned out great and match all the way down to the kitchener stitch where just on row is different. I am too lazy to take pictures... haha.

I borrowed my dad's carpet steam cleaner yesterday and did the heavy traffic areas. Nice and clean now. We rent and he told us it was cleaned before we moved in but it stank of ciggie smell and I got a lot of black water. I went over twice. It is been nice and cool and windy so it dried fairly quick...

I am itching to start another knitting project but can't decide what to do. Am I the only one who experiences this? Of course I have a pile of knitting books ready to be picked up at through the inter-library loan. They all came at once... maybe I will find just the right project. I am putting off knitting more Master Knitter swatches for the time being. I have 6 done, having ripped #7 out. I used a skein of Galway and it had way too many knots in it. I contacted Plymouth yarns and they said I need to return it to my yarn store....not very freindly customer service there. UGh.

3 swatches knit

I have the first 3 swatches knit up and blocking for Level 1 of the Master Knitter program. They look good to me. I will take them to my knitting group and let them critique them. I am trying for perfection, which is not my nature!

On a non-knitting note....

I found a website online that sells all kinds of labels for your printing needs. Planet Label. If you make a lot of address labels, biz cards, greeting cards, or other crafts, take a look. I found some sheets of magnetic for business cards. What a neat idea to give your customers or business aquaintances.

They have inkjet, laser, thermal, magnetic, brown kraft, cardstock and so much more. Pre-printed, weatherproof, non-adhesive, foil, etc. Even a closeout page!

Got my Master Knitter stuff

I got my Master Knitter paperwork today and went to Iris Fine Yarns store to get my swatch yarn. I got 3 skeins latte' colored (#138)Galway. That should be enough for all the swatches.

I got my notebook all organized, too. I had a great find at a rummage sale one day.. a box full of office supplies for $1.00 and there must have been 300 sheet protectors in the bottom so can have all my paperwork in sheets.. :-)
I have a headache so I am not going to start knitting today. Want those swatches perfect.

Master Knitter course

Well, I took the plunge. I sent in my application and fees for the TKGA Master Knitter program! My dear sweet husband gave me this as a present for our 29th wedding anniversary. Isn't he a sweetie? There are quite a few in my Tuesday night knitting group that are also going to be doing the program so we have a built in support group. I have been knitting for 40 years and knowledge is always good.

Shaklee

I just joined Shaklee .
I loved their products in the 80's and kinda forgot about them until recently. I knew I needed to do something about my weight after injuring an ankle and a knee and found that Shaklee has a great program called Cinch. I am on day 4 and all is going very well. They have a great business opportunity if you are looking for something to do from home.
Oprah even featured Shaklee's Get Clean on Earth Day! I am happy to be with a proven company!

Mother's Day gifts

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day. My daughter and one granddaughter came down the week before and my son came on Mother's day. My daughter gave me money to spend on myself and a card witha message from her heart! This was a great gift as she lives far away and can't get me gift certs for around here.
My son gave me a real rose that is preserved in gold!
I will always have a rose now! It came with a vase also. It is very lovely.

I guess I forgot to mention I got a part time job, very part time....
I deliver flowers for my very local florist! I can actually walk to work! I deliver on Mon, Wed, Thurs. afternoons. It is a very nice job. I love driving, I love flowers and I love making people smile! How cool is that!

I work enough to get some yarn money, I guess... very big grin! :-D

Unexpected city visitors

I looked out the patio door one morning and noticed 2 male ducks following a female around. As soon as I got my camera and opened blinds, 1 male flew off. I am no where near a lake or river so the ducks were so out of place.

I am working on monthly dishcloth and started some socks using lime green Fixation yarn. The pattern is a nice little easy cable using no cable needle. Fixation socks just feel so good on the feet that I had to knit more.

Another Frog pond item

Well I got almost done with the summer tee and was to a point where I could try it on. YIKES! It was huge on me and I am no small woman...

Never fear I am reknitting it in the next size smaller. I am making good progress as I know the pattern now. I love knitting so it doesn't bother me to unravel and reknit.

Summer tee progress

Wow I am making good progress on my summer tee. I only knit on while watching tv at night or waiting at dr. office. The neck has to be picked up and knit after the body is knit and sleeves also. The neck seems huge. I sure hope it all comes together nicley.
The color is actually a very nice blue.

Easter Blessings

May our Lord & Savior bless your Easter. He is Risen! He died and rose again so that we might have life> Thank You Jesus!

It was a quiet Easter here. Our daughter and her family were here last weekend and our son came down today. We had a light meal of ham sandwiches and beans. :-)
We even had a little snow on the ground.

Good Friday dishcloth

I completed the Dishcloth of the Month and it is so timely as today was Good Friday. I knit it on size 7's with yellow sugar'n'cream.

The 3 crosses are a reminder of what Jesus did for us. He was the only one there on the hill Who could save us. Thank You Father for sending Your Son!

Junk hunting

Look what I found out on the curb! I saw it in the morning and said if it was still there when I came home in the dark, I would pick it up! My granddaughters are going to love it! There is nothing wrong with it....just a little elbow grease and soap won't fix. I don't normally dumpster dive but this was worth it and it was dark. heehee

I am making good progress on my Tee. Knitting in the round sure speeds up things. I was knitting in waiting room while my dad had eye surgery and all the girls who worked there came out to see it. They all said.. "look how even the stitches are!" I gal knits and another wants to learn so seeing something other than a scarf being knit inspired them.

Knitting a tee

I am attempting to knit myself a Tee for those cooler summer days here in WI. I am using the softest acrylic I have ever felt. It is King Cole Smooth DK. I am adding a purl row every 10 rows to give it a gansey type stripe, just for a textural effect. Knitting in the round is the best as I only hve to purl 1 row in 10. :-)

End of storm

Well here are the same 2 shots as my last post. The storm is past. We ddn't get as much snow as they said but we had rain and ice in between. made for some messy driving conditions. Notice my garden flag is now not waving. But the sun is shining!

I took some pictures of the start of our second big snow storm this morning. The front yard and the back deck with snow left from last storm. We are supposed to get 6 plus more inches. The last one left us with 15".

Happy Birthday Ella!

I can hardly believe it. My granddaughter is 3 years old today! I still remember my daughter being that age! I called her this morning to sing Happy Birthday and at first she said, "don't sing", then she kept saying "sing birthday song"....so several songs later she was laughing. She then proceeded to talk to me as she used the potty chair! hahaha "I'm a big girl!" she told me. I am going to buy her some big girl undies for her birthday.

We are scheduled to drive up Friday for her birthday party on Saturday but we are expecting another snowstorm so we will have to wait and see.

I have been sick with the flu since Sunday and finally have some strength today. I tried knitting but could not concentrate on patterns. My emails piled up, laundry piled up, dust kitties piled up... ugh.

Unfelted bags

Well, I have 2 more bags ready to felt.

The hexagon one is knit in modular triangles from Modular Knits. It was very quick to knit up, weaving in ends took the longest of the purse and sewing front and back together. I guess that is why I like knitting circular, like the 3 color bigger bag... My friend, Teri, did the knitting of the big bag with my guidance. We are going to have a felting night Thursday. I showed her daughter's bag in a previous picture.

Finished Ella's sweater

I finished this sweater for Ella in less than a week. It was amazingly simple! Ella will be turning 3 this month and needs a big girl sweater! It was so easy that I am going to start another one today in another color. a girl can never have too many sweaters! There are NO SEAMS!!!! It is knit entirely in the round without a single seam. I was amazed!
I used a pattern from a new book Sweaters for Everyone. You can find the wonderful book here....One Piece Knitting

I am practicing on Toddler size before starting my big jumbo size! :-) Her pattern even allows for higher neck in back! This woman is a genius!!!

Some knitting project pictures

Here is the purse I finished for my friends daughter, pre-felted. She will be doing the felting, maybe. It is one strand of cascade wool for the base and handle and the body has a strand funky squiggly yarn added. I had to do every other row in two starnds so I wouldn't run out of the funky yarn. The picture does not do it justice. It will be a small purse. The original pattern was done in all white the size of a clutch.

I started some more socks, trying a new pattern. Two socks Toe-up on Two circulars.
My dear hubby asked if I was knitting a bikini! hahaha (maybe for flat tubey cups!) I am using KnitPicks Sock Parade on size 3 US needles. I have already made some changes to pattern for next pair as the toe point is too small.

You know I must be getting better at my knitting if I can change patterns to suit my likes! Cool.
